Timo Krein impresses with gold and best times at the NRW championships!

In Krefeld, where the Covestro Sports Park became the stage for the North Rhine Youth U14/U18 Championships, the athletes of the LAZ Rhein-Sieg celebrated great successes. Timo Krein in particular caused a stir: he was crowned champion over 1500 meters with a personal best time of 4:07.59 minutes, thereby proving his form. The following day he also achieved an impressive third place in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:59.51 minutes. His teammate Florian Herr also impressed as he ran the men's 1500 meters in a quick 3:56.33 minutes, which was his fastest time since 2015. The U20 athletes Tim Julian Ostrominski and Linus Koch were also satisfied with their times of 4:20.63 minutes and 4:22.37 minutes, despite the stress of the high school graduation phase.

Top performance was not only achieved in Krefeld on the Lower Rhine. Felix Ebel dared to take part in the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig and fought his way to a personal best time of 8:16.46 minutes over 3000 meters. Despite an unfortunate drinking habit at the start of the race, which caused him breathing problems during the last 1000 meters, he achieved seventh place out of twelve participants. The election for athlete of the year in Emden, for which Ebel was nominated, will be exciting. He is also very excited about the challenge in South Africa for a training camp next month.

German athletics records and their meaning

What many people don't know: German athletics records hold an exciting place in sports history. Some records have been maintained amid great controversy, particularly regarding doping. Above all, the world records of sports legends like Marita Koch or Marlies Göhr in the sprint area, who hold most of these best performances. These records are not only evaluated according to strict guidelines and under the eyes of the international athletics federation World Athletics, but also show how the sports have developed over the years.

There are currently a number of records in Germany that say a lot about the athletes' level of performance. The 100 meter record stands at 9.99 seconds, set by Owen Ansah. In the marathon there is also a new benchmark with Samuel Fitwi Sibhatu's 2:04:56 hours, which clearly shows what is possible in athletics.

The successes from Krefeld and Leipzig have a motivating effect on the athletes. It remains to be seen what achievements the coming competitions will bring us and how the athletes will achieve their best performances and perhaps even new records. Whether in the country or at national championships, athletics has great potential that needs to be discovered and promoted.
