Cycle path B3: Renovation between Bensheim and Heppenheim starts now!
In Hesse, an important cycle path between Bensheim and Heppenheim is currently being renovated. This extensive repair work along the B 3 federal highway has been underway since July and aims to increase safety and comfort for cyclists. The current focus of the work is on the roundabout on the outskirts of Heppenheim, where intensive construction work is expected.
Work will be temporarily suspended from August 19th to 31st, meaning the half-way closure of the roundabout will be lifted. During this time, residents and visitors can use the entrance and exit to the “Gunderslache” as usual. However, a diversion via the commercial road network will be set up for pedestrians and cyclists.
Innovation for the cycle path
From September 1st, the renovation of the cycle path in the direction of Bensheim will continue with half-closure of the federal highway with a traffic light guidance system. During this phase, the roundabout in the direction of Bensheim and Heppenheim remains passable, but the entrance and exit to “Gunderslache” will be closed again. The diversion for traffic on the B 3 takes place within the town via Rebenstrasse.
In order to find a long-term solution, the cycle path will be renovated in a high installation with an elevation of around 28 cm. Severely damaged sections will also be renovated using concrete construction, while other areas will be repaired using asphalt construction. In front of access roads, the cycle path will be lowered to the level of the existing structure to a length of 15 to 20 meters in order to make it easier to use. An essential element of the renovation is taking into account the tree roots, whose rising asphalt caused damage. The planned work is not only intended to give the cycle path an avenue character, but also to protect the roots of the trees.
Financing and outlook
The costs for the entire construction work amount to 920,000 euros, which are financed by the federal government. Hessen Mobil will keep the public informed about further progress and changes in the construction of the cycle path. These measures are not only necessary, but also contribute to improving the transport infrastructure and quality of life in the region.
The modernization of the cycle path between Bensheim and Heppenheim is a step in the right direction; entirely in the spirit of increased usage options for all cyclists. So stay tuned and keep yourself informed regularly about the progress of this important construction project.
