Gas Sensations 2025: Heppenheim celebrates with 46 free shows!
Things will be happening again in Heppenheim next July! The international street theater festival “Gassensensationen” will take place for the 32nd time from the 9th to the 12th of this year. A highlight for those interested in culture, which can focus on the historically grown old town and the open-air stage. As in previous years, this year there is once again an exciting program that will delight young and old.
This year's festival's motto is “About loving and being cheated on”, a theme that leaves a lot of room for creative interpretations. A total of 46 productions will be shown over the four days, and the best part? Entry is free for all guests. Around 30,000 people have already announced that they don't want to miss out on seeing the artists on site, reports MRN News.
Diverse program for all generations
The artists come from numerous countries and present a colorful mix of comedy, musical theater, acrobatics and puppetry. Particularly noteworthy are the performances by puppeteer Albert Völkl, who presents the piece “It Will Be Once” on Wednesday and Thursday. Völkl has not only made a name for himself with this work, but has also been designing the silhouettes for the Heppenheimer Laternenweg for over 20 years, the tours of which take place at 10 p.m. on the days of the event.
For younger visitors, the festival offers its own children's festival in the Kastanienhof of the Saalbau cinema, which takes place on Friday and Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Here, children can, among other things, build a marble run, take part in a pop-up painting school or enjoy the “Elisa-Bib” puppet theater, according to the program Alley sensations known.
Award for volunteer work
An extraordinary feature of the Alley Sensations is the significant involvement of the local community. The Friends and Supporters of Gassensensationen e.V. association, which is the festival's largest donor with almost 1,400 members, ensures that the events run smoothly. Volunteers help sell pretzels and collect donations to keep the cultural offerings in Heppenheim alive. The support of sponsors such as Sparkasse Starkenburg, Infectopharm and GGEW also plays a crucial role in supporting the festival financially.
“We appeal to the public to become supporting members to secure the future of the festival,” the association encourages local citizens. The street sensations not only live from art, but also from the community.
While cultural initiatives such as “Berlin laughs!” pursue similar values in the capital and also strive to ensure broad accessibility of art ( Berlin laughs ), Heppenheim with its alley sensations offers a unique experience in the heart of the city.
