On the night of Thursday, June 26, 2025, a major fire was reported in the Schellnhausen district of the Feldatal community. At 2 a.m. the fire brigade received the alarming news and responded immediately. When the emergency services arrived, the barn was already fully ablaze and the fire had already spread to an adjacent, vacant house. Fortunately, no people or animals were in danger as the building was unoccupied Fulda newspaper reported.
Firefighters battled the flames while facing difficult water supplies. This was secured by tank fire engines, which had to be alerted to ensure the necessary water supply. Nevertheless, the approximately 150 emergency services from Feldatal and surrounding communities managed to quickly bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings. The estimated material damage is between 200,000 and 250,000 euros, as stated Upper Hessian newspaper reported.
Investigation into the cause of the fire
The police have started investigating the cause of the fire. Deputy district fire inspector Hubert Helm commented on the difficult situation on site and praised the fire department's quick response. Despite the challenges, particularly in water supply, an even greater catastrophe was averted. An ambulance was also on site, although fortunately there were no injuries.
Parallel to these dramatic events, a separate incident occurred nearby in Künzell: a panel van burned out completely on a dirt road near the A7. The cause is still unclear and the police have also started an investigation here, while the driver is missing.
