A lot is happening on the federal highway B 254 between Alsfeld and Lauterbach! The major road construction work began with the start of the summer holidays on July 7, 2025, and the second construction phase is already just around the corner. As Hessen.de reports, everything is going according to plan and the move to the second phase will take place on Monday, August 18, 2025.
The work affects the intersection of the B 254 and the L 3145 as well as the commercial area in Alsfeld/Altenburg. Traffic from Lauterbach continues to be completely blocked here, which means that drivers have to be redirected from the junction near Brauerschwend via Rainrod and Eifa to Alsfeld. For everyone driving from Alsfeld to Lauterbach, there is a one-way regulation, which entails noticeable changes in traffic routing.
Overview of the construction work
The renovation measure is not an easy task! The section that extends between the Elpersweide roundabout and Schwalmtal/Hopfgarten has major road damage, such as network cracks and thinning, which requires urgent renovation. The road surface is now being replaced over a total length of around 2.9 kilometers in order to avoid future, costly damage. The investments for this amount to around 2.3 million euros, as Vogelsberger Zeitung reports.
- Bauabschnitt 1: 07.07.2025 bis Ende der Sommerferien – Vollsperrung von Lauterbach kommend, Umleitung über Brauerschwend, Rainrod und Eifa nach Alsfeld.
- Bauabschnitt 2: Knotenpunkt B 254/L 3145/Gewerbegebiet – ab 18.08.2025 in Einbahnregelung.
- Bauabschnitt 3: Freie Strecke zwischen Altenburg und Kreisverkehr Elpersweide – ebenfalls mit Einbahnregelung.
As Hessen Mobil emphasizes, coordination discussions were held with those involved regarding traffic management in advance in order to keep the inconvenience for road users as low as possible. So anyone who will be traveling in the next few weeks should prepare for the changed traffic routing in good time!
The entire completion of this extensive construction project is scheduled for October 2025.
