Storm chaos in East Hesse: Fire brigade in constant operation!

We were just able to enjoy the summer weather when violent storms took hold of East Hesse on Thursday night. The consequences were far-reaching: several fire brigade operations were necessary in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district and in the Fulda district. East Hesse News reports that the fire brigade in Wüstefeld, a municipality in Rotenburg, was alerted at 11:10 p.m. A tree had fallen completely on the roadway of the L3336 and posed a danger to traffic. 12 emergency services were quickly on site and ensured that the danger spot was quickly removed.

In Neuhof, also in the Fulda district, a large branch fell onto the road at the town exit towards Hattenhof. Here too, the fire brigade was able to intervene quickly and reopen the road. Another operation was necessary around 2:30 a.m. on Fulda's Adalbertstrasse when a tree fell on a parked car. Fortunately, the driver was not in the vehicle and was quickly informed. However, in both cases there were no further restrictions Hesse show.

Damage and traffic disruptions

The storms caused by the Deep Henry cold front caused serious damage not only in eastern Hesse, but also in other parts of Hesse. There was an accident on the A7 near Kassel involving three cars and a mobile home - six people were injured, two of them seriously. In northern Hesse there were several accidents with minor injuries and some streets were under water. Also in Lich, where a tree fell on a car, two young men were slightly injured.

A total of over 90 fire brigade operations were reported in the Lahn-Dill district, while in Fulda a fallen tree blocked the entrance to a hotel and 60 guests were affected. Particularly noteworthy are the extreme weather phenomena that are increasing due to climatic changes. Global warming, for example, is leading to an increase in heat waves and changes in precipitation, such as German Weather Service determines.

A look at the weather

Other regions of Hesse were also affected. The Vogelsberg district reported fallen trees on federal and state roads, while lightning caused significant damage to property in an elementary school in Alsfeld. Lightning struck the Frankfurt roof structure, fortunately no one was injured. Gelnhausen also experienced a disruption - a fallen tree there led to a 20-minute power outage.

In general, the current weather situation does not only bring with it storms. According to the forecasts, the weather will eventually calm down on Sunday night. This could gradually ease the situation in the affected areas, but citizens should continue to be vigilant as such extreme weather events could increase in the coming years due to climate change.

Impressions of the last weather situation are still fresh and no one will quickly forget these events. So let's stay alert and hope that the next few days will be a little quieter.
