Shocking accidents and fraud: Police warn in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district!
The police in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district are reporting a series of incidents that are making residents sit up and take notice. On December 1, 2025, a cool morning, several traffic accidents occurred, including two with serious injuries that require legal clarification. There are also valuable clues regarding a license plate theft and a disturbing case of fraud that caused not only emotional but also financial damage.
In the first serious traffic accident on the B62, a 39-year-old Mercedes driver from Breitenbach left her lane and collided with a Renault that was being driven by a 60-year-old woman from Alsfeld. Both vehicle occupants suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to the Fulda Clinic and a clinic in Alsfeld. The total damage amounts to around 30,000 euros. Another accident occurred on the same day in Bad Hersfeld, where a Romanian truck driver collided sideways with a Renault while changing lanes. The material damage here amounts to at least 7,000 euros.
Hit and run and license plate theft
A particularly brazen incident took place on November 30th in Bad Hersfeld: unknown people damaged the property wall of a resident on Gerwigstrasse and then fled. The material damage is estimated at around 200 euros. The Bad Hersfeld police station will receive information on 06621/932-0.
In addition, thieves are targeting license plates. In Heringen, the license plates “ROF-BW 3” were stolen from a white Dacia Sandero that was parked in the parking lot at Friedrich-Ebert-Platz. The police are also asking for information to clarify this.
Alarming: Love scamming in Bad Hersfeld
But the police are not only called upon to deal with traffic accidents. In Bad Hersfeld, a 55-year-old woman became the victim of unscrupulous love scamming. Over a period of several weeks, she sent an eye-popping €47,000 to fraudsters who contacted her via Instagram. The modus operandi of scammers, who make themselves indispensable in the lives of their victims, includes romantic emails and phone calls without meeting in person. Interestingly, they often emphasize the difficulties they face in supposedly traveling to West Africa to extort additional money.
As the police explain in their tips on Scamming, those affected should ignore demands, break off communication and file a report. Scammers' methods are varied: they often tell stories about deceased relatives and pressure their victims to transfer money for non-existent fees or visa costs.
Thefts in everyday life
In addition, several pickpockets in the region show that criminal energies are also present in everyday life. At least two cases occurred on December 1st, in which both a 77-year-old woman from Lispenhausen and a 75-year-old man from Bad Hersfeld were robbed. Both had their wallets stolen from their jacket pockets.
Investigations into all of these incidents are already underway. Police are urging citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. In these turbulent times, it is more important than ever to stick together and look after each other so that such unpleasant incidents can be resolved quickly.
