Traffic offenses and fraudsters: Police warn of risks in Bad Hersfeld!

In the last few days there have been some unpleasant incidents in the Bad Hersfeld region that should make citizens take notice. Police are appealing for information about several traffic accidents and fraud cases that have occurred in the area.

On June 24th, a blue VW Polo was damaged on Karlstrasse in Bebra. Between 6:00 a.m. and 8:45 p.m., property damage amounting to around 300 euros occurred. The police in Rotenburg are accepting tips on 06623/937-0. A gray Audi A5 Sportback had previously been damaged in an underground car park on “Klaustor” street in Bad Hersfeld between June 16th and 24th. The damage here amounts to around 1,000 euros. Information about this can also be sent to the Bad Hersfeld police station on 06621/932-0.

Damage to property and attempted break-ins

The crimes don't stop here. In Bad Hersfeld, a memorial plaque on the old city wall at Schillerplatz was damaged between an unknown period of time, although the material damage cannot currently be quantified. In addition, an attempted break-in into a warehouse was discovered in Neuenstein on “Lingenfeld” street between June 20th and 24th, although the door withstood the break-in attempts - the property damage is estimated at around 100 euros.

The sad picture is rounded off by the theft of a “Zamelux Green” e-scooter, which was stolen from in front of a school on Geistalweg on June 24th between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The value of the scooter is around 360 euros. The police in Bad Hersfeld are hoping for information from witnesses about all of the incidents mentioned.

Fraud by fake police officers

The increase in fraud cases in the region is also worrying: on June 24, two senior citizens in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district became victims of so-called shock calls in which the perpetrators posed as police officers. The fraudsters demanded jewelry worth several thousand euros and were able to get one of the senior citizens to hand the jewelry over to a 1.88 meter tall man on “Vorm Wald” street. Another senior citizen handed over her jewelry to a man about 1.60 meters tall on Jasminweg.

The police warn urgently against this scam. Scammers often use call ID spoofing to impersonate police officers and demand money or valuables. The real police would never ask for personal information over the phone. Therefore, it is important to hang up immediately if you receive a suspicious call and contact your local police station.

The consumer advice center advises to be particularly careful with calls from “police officers” or apparent investigators such as Europol or Interpol. The first contact is often made via automated announcements, and the callers put their victims under pressure to cooperate. If in doubt, you should contact the police directly to protect yourself.
