Beach festival in Rotenburg: spectacle with lights, boats and fun!
In the picturesque Fulda town of Rotenburg an der Fulda, the traditional local and beach festival was in full swing on Thursday evening. The opening of the festival site at 6 p.m. on the camping path attracted hundreds of visitors who eagerly waited for the colorful showmen and the exciting activities. The tapping of the keg took place in the festival tent at 7 p.m., but this initially had to be solved creatively due to a leaky seal on the top. Mayor Marcus Weber and brewery representative Christoph Schneehain didn't let this bother them. After the first beer flowed, the Rotenburg marching band and fanfare band and the Würzburg band “Grumis” created an upbeat atmosphere.
A large flea market awaited guests on Friday in the castle courtyard and park, which left them wanting more as they browsed. Sporting activities such as the race for two giant sugar cones and the children's beach party brought a lot of fun for the little ones. The afternoon was all about the beach festival run, while the evening ended in the beer gardens with the largest tent disco in the region and musical performances.
Diverse program over the weekend
The festival offering extends until Sunday, with a colorful program for the whole family. Saturday begins at 10.30 a.m. with the Mini Olympics for children, followed by “fun and games on the Rotenburger Gass”. Another attraction is the balloon competition on the market square from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The duck race takes place at the old Fulda Bridge at 3 p.m., followed by the Castle Park Festival with three bands at 8 p.m. The crowning conclusion of the day is the Festival of 20,000 Lights in the castle park, where the city distributes 20,000 tea lights - often up to 50,000 lights are brought by visitors to enjoy the magical atmosphere.
Sunday offers a celebratory service on the market square from 9 a.m., followed by a relay race through the city and an award ceremony at 11:30 a.m. The big parade from Breitinger Kirchweg begins at 2 p.m., while the festival site opens at the same time. A special highlight is the trial rowing at the rowing club, which takes place at 3 p.m. In the evening, guests can look forward to the chapel on the Fuldaböckchen before the big fireworks party begins in the festival tent.
Boat parade and spectacular water features
Particular attention is paid to the traditional boat parade on Sunday evening, which has been an integral part of the festival since 1927. Illuminated boats glide across the Fulda and depict various motifs, from popular films like “Ghostbusters” to political topics. This colorful event, together with spectacular water features, will be remembered by visitors for a long time.
The Home and Beach Festival is not only a festive event, but also a wonderful opportunity for residents to meet, celebrate and strengthen the community. Like we from HNA, FFH and East Hesse News were able to experience, there are also numerous highlights for younger guests that will delight and amaze in equal measure.
