SSV Hünfeld starts the indoor swimming season with 43 medals!

Last weekend, the Hünfeld indoor swimming pool was not only a place for swimmers with colds, but also a venue for impressive performances in the water. The Neptun 1966 e.V. swimming club in Rotenburg an der Fulda organized a competition in which the swimmers from SSV Hünfeld were able to shine with 43 medals. A total of 16 athletes took part in this event, which marks the start of the indoor swimming season. Particularly outstanding was the strong performance of Justus Müller from performance group 1, who won eight medals in ten starts, including three gold ones.

But other SSV Hünfeld swimmers were also impressive: Theo Weber secured seven medals, while Leni Grund won five medals in seven starts, including three gold. The success of the 4x50m mixed freestyle relay was particularly notable, with Justus Müller, Jette Maria Gatterdam, Finja Rausch and Theo Weber winning a silver team medal. The younger performance group also made a name for itself with Mathilda Ames and Toni Simon, who also collected several medals. This showed that the education and training of athletes pays.

A harmonious competition event

The Hünfeld indoor swimming pool opened its doors to a total of 110 swimmers from ten Hessian and one Thuringian clubs in the morning. As part of the Gaalbern Cup, which has been held since 1989, the athletes took to the water and fought for the coveted challenge cup. The organizers around the coaches Janina Heider, Damian Heilmann, Vincent Kehr and Carlo Wendler ensured everything went smoothly, even though the SSV Hünfeld performance group 2, which was only formed last year, was competing in the Gaalbern Cup for the first time.

Despite the strong competition, SSV Hünfeld was able to boast 22 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals. In the end, SV Wartburgstadt Eisenach 1 secured the “Gaalberne” challenge cup, while the Hünfeld swimmers achieved great personal best times. The atmosphere of the event was harmonious and was rounded off by the culinary offerings from the SSV Hünfeld helpers.

A look beyond the region

In a broader context, the 2025 World Swimming Championships, taking place in Singapore, is of growing interest. Germany has already gotten off to a good start in the pool competitions and has placed itself in the medal table. Athletes like Lukas Märtens and Anna Elendt have already caused a stir by winning medals and German records. This shows that swimming culture is not only flourishing in Hesse, but that there is also a lot going on internationally. The strong performance of the German team, which is currently in third place in the medal table, should motivate all swimmers to continue to give their best. These successes are also an incentive for the talents from Hünfeld to perhaps one day shine on the big international stages themselves.

It remains to be hoped that the positive development in swimming for the SSV Hünfeld swimmers will continue in the future and that they can continue to celebrate their successes.
