Anniversary concert: Singing circle Alheimer celebrates 100 years of choral culture

A very special anniversary is just around the corner: The Alheimer Singers' circle celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025. This traditional club was founded in 1925 after the federal singer festival in Hanover, originally under the name "Gau-Alheimer-Singerbund". In its early years, he comprised proud 50 clubs with around 1,400 singers, an impressive testimony to the enthusiasm for choral music at the time. But the history of the Alheimer Singing circle was not always straight. After the turmoil of the Second World War, the singing circle was launched again on September 18, 1949 under the chair of August Stiehl. Martin Kersten, who steered the club's fortunes from 1951 to 1974, played a central role in reunification of the singers. In the 1960s, the singing circle experienced its flower with 2,292 active people in 43 clubs. The choir was very popular in the region, but the community is currently suffering from a noticeable lack of young talent, which has been reinforced by the Corona pandemic. At the moment, the singing circle counts about 1,500 singers, of which more than half is active.

A big festive day is imminent

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, the 100th anniversary of the singing circle is duly celebrated. At 6:00 p.m. there is an open-air concert on the town hall square of Bebra, which is all about the region's choral culture. Admission is free, and visitors can look forward to a varied program, which is designed by the choirs of the Alheimer Circle of Singing.
