Bebra, Deutschland - On June 27, 2025, the Bebra fire brigade celebrated its city fire brigade day in Asmushausen, an event that focused not only on the operational readiness of the fire brigade but also the community of the city. Mayor Stefan Knoche opened the event with an urgent appeal to support the fire brigade and emphasized its role as a backbone of municipal security. "Trust and living camaraderie," said the mayor, are essential for the work of the fire brigade.

During the city fire brigade day, city fire inspector Mike Heckroth gave an overview of the impressive number of operations of the past year. In total, the fire brigade recorded fabulous 442 missions in 2024, including 66 fires, 15 traffic accidents and five dangerous goods missions. The storm situation on the day of the event, which led to 199 points of operation, was particularly challenging. Despite these loads, 9,000 training hours were completed in the same year in order to be optimally equipped for such situations.

The importance of young talent was not disregarded. The youth fire brigade, with a proud 20 active members, is about to take the performance clip, an important step in the fire brigade of the young people. This social and educational work is supported by creative actions such as a hike with play stations between Gilfershausen and IBA. The fire brigade currently has a total of 203 young members spread over eight children and youth fire brigades.

Another big step for the fire brigade in Bebra is the introduction of new vehicles and modern software solutions such as "Ikat". In addition, the planned respiratory protection training in Bebra is realized in order to train the emergency services even better. They also received praise from the test service of the State of Hesse, which rated the technology and organization of the fire brigade positively.

The fire brigade Bebra celebrates its 145th anniversary on August 30th with a wine festival. This is not only an expression of gratitude for the work done, but also a nice opportunity to strengthen the community. The new tool shed in Blankenheim will also be inaugurated on September 27th. Another highlight is the next city fire brigade day, which will take place in Solz from June 26th to 28th, 2026.

The significantly grown commitment of all members ensures that people in Bebra can count on reliable support even in times of crisis. The musical and culinary entertainment offered on this day by the Bebra-Nord fire brigade and the Swimming pool association Asmushausen added a happy note.

In a completely different context, the current situation in the country shows that the need for fire service services is increasing: in Germany there were around 48,100 fire brigades in Germany, with the volunteer fire departments with over a million members. According to Statista, they moved out a total of around 229,000 missions in 2022. These statistics illustrate how important the fire brigade is to protect the population and what challenges it faces.
