Record blood donor from Bebra: Kurt Wenderoth-Wegener is honored!
Bebra, Deutschland - Kurt Wenderoth-Wegener from Bebra is a very extraordinary person. With a proud 156 blood donation, he is not only a record donor, but also a real lifesaver. On June 21, he will be honored for his incredible commitment in Wiesbaden. The 66-year-old has made it a life work not only to donate blood, but also to actively fight for important topics such as child vaccination and transfusion. It is hard to believe that he started his blood donation career in 1979 during his Bundeswehr period!
As a member of the Red Cross, Wenderoth-Wegener saved the lives of over 44,100 people. 96 blood donors are honored for a total of 14,725 blood donations, which underlines the importance of Wenderoth-Wegener’s commitment. He puts his sleeves up six times a year - with a break of 56 days between the donations. And best of all: He is planning to achieve 200th blood donation since the age limit in 2023 was lifted. With 31 years of experience in this area, he knows what it means to help others.
a model in society
Kurt not only is volunteering, but, like many of us, also has his own life. After training at the Deutsche Bundesbank, he worked in several cities and founded a family. Even if he has donated high amounts of money in the past, they have decreased after the foundation of his family. But that doesn't stop him from being active - especially when improving the catering during blood donation actions. He is constantly looking for new supporters to address these challenges.
A clear part of Wenderoth-Wegen’s lifestyle is also his attitude to smoke and alcohol-for him these things are taboo. Nevertheless, he does not miss the opportunity to enjoy good food, especially goulash and cake. And he also gets involved in the gymnastics club in IBA, where he took over the chair. A real role model in several ways!
vaccination and donating blood
One of the topics for which Wenderoth-Wegener is in is the clarification of vaccinations. Many may not know that vaccinations are divided into active and passive. Active vaccinations help the body to build immunity against diseases while passive vaccinations provide finished antibodies. But there are also rules for blood donors here. After a vaccination with living vaccines, freshly vaccinated should consider a longer reset time, because the recipients of blood donations are often healthy and should not be added additional.
The importance and commitment of each individual blood donation are huge, as is the blood donation website. It is pointed out here that a certain distance requirement must also be observed in the event of active vaccinations in order to guarantee the safety of everyone involved. This is a particularly important topic that Wenderoth-Wegener and other activists want to emphasize.
In summary, it can be said that Kurt Wenderoth-Wegener is not only awarded for his impressive number of blood donations. It is also an excellent example of social commitment and mutual help. With his tireless efforts, he not only inspires other donors, but also the entire community.Details | |
