Lantern magic for the little ones: Lantern ride day at the water tower!
On Saturday, November 15th, the popular lantern ride day organized by Eisenbahnfreunde Bebra e.V. took place. This event has become a real highlight for families with younger children, and interest was again high this year. The festive day was scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and offered numerous attractions for the little visitors.
A special moment was the appearance of the rider as St. Martin, who appeared at the head of a lantern parade at 4:30 p.m. The introduction of this traditional figure, which represents charity and sharing, was a real experience for the children and made their faces and eyes light up.
Attractions and food
The narrow-gauge railways “Biber-Blitz” and “Wasserturm-Express” were another highlight of the event. These trains commuted between the water tower, a Bebra landmark built in 1910, and the Weiterode West stop. The little train ride caused enthusiasm and was a complete success.
In order to strengthen the young and old guests, there were delicious waffles and a barbecue offer in the kiosk, which ensured the physical well-being of the visitors. Free parking was available for those arriving and the water tower was about a 15-minute walk from the train station - ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy the fresh air and surroundings.
Outlook for further dates
The Eisenbahnfreunde Bebra e.V. also has further special days in store. The St. Nicholas driving day is on Saturday, December 6th, and a New Year's driving day on Thursday, January 1st, 2026. Both events promise to offer equally atmospheric experiences for the whole family.
Overall, the lantern ride day was a successful event that brought the community together and helped keep the tradition alive. As the East Hesse News reports, the event was a complete success and will definitely attract many visitors in the coming years.
