Today, June 12, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at an unguarded railway crossing between Gersfeld (Rhön) and Fulda. A Rhönbahn train collided around 8:45 a.m. with a truck that had the rear of its semi-trailer on the track at the time of the accident.
The truck driver had just unloaded steel plates for a construction road and was apparently unaware of the approaching danger. The driver blew the caution whistle in time and initiated rapid braking, but was no longer able to prevent the collision. Finally the train hit the rear of the truck.
