Martin's Market in Hünfeld: A festival for the whole family despite the rain!

Last weekend the atmosphere in Hünfeld was great as the traditional St. Martin's Market brought the city to life. Despite the cold, wet weather, numerous visitors were not deterred and flocked to the event, which offered a variety of culinary and handmade products with around 75 market stalls. The variety ranged from hearty delicacies to artistic handicrafts that made visitors' hearts beat faster. Fulda newspaper reports that the shops in Hünfeld also did their best and organized a shopping weekend with new autumn and winter trends.

However, the Martinsmarkt in Hünfeld was not just a place for shopping and enjoyment. An exciting family program with musical interludes and a carousel ensured happy faces among young and old. The little ones were able to look around and discover their own flea market mile, while on Sunday a handmade market on the Anger offered unique handmade items. An additional highlight was the festive St. Martin's parade on Sunday evening, in which horse and rider, together with a brass band, led the crowd and colorful lanterns were lit through the streets of Hünfeld.

A weekend full of regional delights in Dernau

While the people of Hünfeld celebrated a happy festival, the St. Martin's Market of regional delicacies took place in neighboring Dernau. The best of the area was celebrated here from November 7th to 9th, 2025. On Friday evening, visitors were able to enjoy a fine Ahr wine during a torchlight hike through the vineyards. The market opened on Saturday at 11 a.m. and, in addition to decorative items and handicrafts, also offered regional specialties such as mulled wine and hearty food. Ahrtal information report on a large torchlight procession with St. Martin, which started on Saturday at 6 p.m. and allowed visitors to immerse themselves in the special atmosphere of St. Martin's Day.

There was a lot on offer for the little ones at both venues. While the children in Hünfeld happily made their rounds in the carousel, in Dernau the little ones with their lanterns took part in the torchlight procession through the vineyards, where the St. Martin's fires of the five village communities were lit. This combination of cultural highlights and family get-togethers made both markets an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

This shows that the Martinsmarkts in Hünfeld and Dernau are not only a delight for the palate, but also rich in tradition and a sense of community. It is once again clear that these events are firmly anchored in the region's annual calendar, and they promise many happy hours again next year for visitors of all ages.
