Experience the challenge: Extratour Gersfeld on July 20!

The Rhönklub Zweigverein Hünfeld has put an exciting event together: On Sunday, July 20, 2025, he invites you to explore the new extra tour "Gersfeld". This 13-kilometer hike leads through the beautiful, varied landscape of the UNESCO biosphere reserve Rhön and offers impressive views. Whether on the Fuldaer Land or the Bavarian Rhön with the striking Kreuzberg - nature shows its best side.

The hike, which is a certain challenge with 500 meters of altitude, begins at 10 a.m. at the restaurant to the Hohen Rhön "Jausenstation" Mosbach. Party friends and nature lovers meet at 9 a.m. at the Unsben car park in the Landeneauallee district. The experienced hiking guides Beate Biedenbach and Ursula Kreis-Vehrel are looking forward to leading the participants through this scenic area, in which relics of a ski jump on the Simmelsberg, which were used until the 1970s, can also be discovered. Rucksack catering is necessary, but in the end a sociable closing stall in the snack station is waiting for the hikers.

The opening of the extra tour

Only recently, on April 16, 2025, the extra tour "Gersfeld" was ceremoniously opened. Around 200 hikers and interested parties took part in the event, which was accompanied by greeting prominent supporters, including Mayor Dr. Steffen Korell and other representatives from the areas of politics and nature conservation. Musical interludes of the Duos Wolfgang and Andrea Weinig created a festive atmosphere. Gersfeld reports that the tour should establish a connection between nature conservation, education and sustainable tourism.

The route itself not only offers breathtaking views from Himmeldunkberg, the Hohen Hell and Simmelsberg, but also information about geology, flora and fauna, as well as regional history. Information boards along the way make it easier to learn more about the Rhön cultural landscape and their historical sites. The tour is even certified by the German hiking institute, which gives it additional weight.

diverse hiking landscapes in the Rhön

The Rhön is known for its extensive and diverse hiking trail network, which not only includes the extra tours, but also numerous premium and circular paths. The Hochrhöner, who was recognized as the "most beautiful hiking trail", attracts hiking friends from near and far. As the Biosphere Rhön determines hikers benefit from a well-signposted infrastructure that is looked after by voluntary paths of the Rhönklubs. In cooperation with various nature parks, great importance is also placed on sustainable tourism.

The hiking trails in the Rhön are not only a win for nature lovers, but also play an important role in local tourism. The offer is steadily expanded and improved in order to meet both the needs of hikers and the requirements of nature conservation. For everyone who wants to explore the Rhön, there is the right app "Biosphere Reserve Rhön", which enables digital explorations of the area.

The upcoming extra tour "Gersfeld" on July 20, 2025 is all about nature, community and enjoyment - a perfect goal for everyone who appreciates hiking in the Rhön.
