Greens set signs: New local association for Wanfried and Meinhard founded!
In an exciting new development, the Bündnis 90/The Greens launched a new local association for Wanfried and Meinhard. At the founding event in Wanfried, which was well attended with around 15 participants, Diana Wetzestein and Günter Tschiersky were elected as the spokesman for the new association. The local association is the seventh in the Werra-Meißner-Kreis, which wants to work for green topics with fresh vigor. Existing local associations can be found in Bad Sooden-Allendorf, Eschwege, Witzenhausen, Neu-Eichenberg, Waldkappel and Sontra-Herleshausen, whereby the Greens are not yet represented in some local representatives, such as in Sontra and Herleshausen.
With regard to the upcoming local election on March 15, 2026, the Greens intend to compete with their own lists. When the local association was founded, there was already a remarkable interest of people who want to run for the election. A highlight of the new association will be the commitment of Diana Wetzestein, which is particularly strong for the promotion of women in politics. She has created a working paper with possible priorities to advance equality and bring more women to political offices.
common goals and local initiatives
Among the goals of the new association are the installation of “city and village helpers” for people in need of help and low-threshold advice on energy topics that may be interested in many citizens. These initiatives reflect the core concerns of the Greens, which are important both in the Werra-Meißner-Kreis and beyond. There are already considerations about the list for Meinhard, which Günter Tschiersky wants to tackle.
The preparations for local elections are said to be in full swing. The focus is on promoting equality, which is shown by the introduction of lists with women's quotas, as they are under discussion in Bavaria. There is a remarkable success story there, because women already make up 50% of the mandates in Bavarian municipal councils, while the total cut is only 22%. According to the Greens' local political initiatives, not only the proportion of women should be increased, but also topics such as sustainable budgetary policy, educational -friendly municipalities and a sustainable energy supply should be promoted.
A call for participation
The topic of women in local politics is becoming increasingly important. Other regional representatives also encourage women to actively participate in the local elections. Helga Stieglmeier emphasizes from the Greens that timely measures are important to attract women for political offices, especially one year before the election if you want to go to the election on March 8, 2026, World Women's Day.
interested people are welcome to the new local association, and even without membership, a candidacy on the lists of the Greens is possible. A first meeting of the new local association is planned for August, but the exact date has not yet been determined. Citizens who want to bring their ideas and suggestions are welcome to actively participate in the upcoming events.
