Eschweg's new botanik house: a green classroom for everyone!
Eschwege, Deutschland - Almost two months ago, the botany house in the Botanical Garden of Eschwege was ceremoniously opened. For many, this place is not just a new building, but a "green classroom" that is very popular. Frank Siepmann, deputy chairman of the Botanischer Garten Garden Eschwege Förderkreis, emphasizes that demand is remarkable as a learning and experience space for children and adolescents. Even the first civil wedding is planned for this month in the Botanikhaus.
The newly designed botanic house, which offers space for 20 people and is accordingly equipped with tables and chairs, was made possible by a generous donation from the Sparkassen Foundation "Good Keeping-Design Future" of 8,500 euros. This step praises Marc Semmel, the chairman of the Sparkasse Werra-Meißner, as valuable support for the project and the committed work of the support group. In order to make the park even more attractive in summer, there is now an important addition in the form of a toilet system.
sustainability and education focus
The botanikhaus was created with the aim of enabling children and adolescents to experience practical nature. It should offer space for the understanding of natural cycles as well as for the promotion of sustainability and responsibility towards the environment. The identification of the residents with the park is also in focus, especially in cooperation with the local kindergartens and schools. In order to integrate the population into the project, events such as short lectures and training courses are planned.
After the foundation stone was laid in June 2024, the topping -out ceremony followed in November of the same year and finally the official opening on May 16, 2025. Luther Bauplanung GmbH from Eschwege was responsible for planning and implementing the project. Feedback from the population shows that the perseverance was worth it despite various challenges. District Administrator Nicole Rathgeber thanks the support group for their perseverance and courage.
a contribution to environmental education
The botanikhaus not only fits into the landscape of the botanical garden, but is also in a larger context of education and environmental awareness. Because the importance of botanical gardens goes far beyond pure resting places. These gardens act as important educational centers that sensitize a variety of plant species and promote understanding of ecosystems and biodiversity. They are often also research centers and offer interactive programs for pupils and adults that range from plant anatomy to ecological contexts.
With activities such as creating beds or ecological studies, not only knowledge is conveyed, but also a deeper understanding of nature is created. At a time when environmental awareness and sustainable thinking are becoming increasingly important, the botany house is a step in the right direction and a valuable contribution to global environmental protection.
Overall, the Botanikhaus project shows how local initiatives can successfully strengthen the awareness of nature and promote education in an innovative way. The Sparkassen Foundation has supported many such projects in the Werra-Meißner-Kreis in the past 20 years and thus sets a clear sign for the promotion of monument protection, art, culture and nature conservation.
