Strong festival in the Sophiengarten: Theater for young and old!
The anticipation for Friday, September 26th, 2025 is increasing! At 4:00 p.m. a unique children's theater piece will take place in the picturesque Sophiengarten in Eschwege: “A Strong as a Bear Festival”. This event is aimed at children aged four and over and promises not only entertainment but also important messages.
The story is about the girl Merle, who celebrates her birthday while her mom is away and her dad lives somewhere else. For the first time, Merle is allowed to stay overnight with her neighbor, Aunt Thea, who wants to avoid the partying completely. But Merle has a creative idea: together with Aunt Thea and the neighbors, the birthday will be a celebration in which togetherness and cohesion are celebrated. This goes beyond the festival, as Christmas is also included in the plan. Themes such as prejudice, overcoming being alone, fantasy and the meaning of teddy bears run through the course of the piece, which is part of the Intercultural Week. And best of all: entry is free, so everyone has the chance to become part of this special event. Eschwege reports on this in detail.
Strengthen intercultural competence
But how does this theater fit into the bigger picture of interculturality? In an increasingly connected world, understanding other cultures is more important than ever. There are a variety of creative approaches to promoting intercultural skills in children that go far beyond going to the theater. Parents can take their children on a “kitchen trip around the world” where they choose a different country every week and recreate its dishes reports the website Children of a World.
In addition, an intercultural story evening can be organized where fairy tales from different cultures are read out loud. This not only promotes understanding of cultural differences, but also the ability to communicate across cultural boundaries. Workshops in which children explore and create art forms from all over the world round off the offering. Creativity is the key here to promote openness and respect for other cultures.
Joint celebrations and projects
The integration of intercultural competence into everyday life is also crucial. This can be done through multilingual media, celebrating different cultural festivals or creating an intercultural toy box. Such projects not only support personal development, such as empathy and communication skills, but also help to break down prejudices and shape an inclusive society.
The children's theater piece in the Sophiengarten is more than just an entertaining event. It is a catalyst for important learning and a sign of the importance of cultural exchange in our multicultural society. Take the opportunity, bring your children and experience how the powerful festival conveys both entertainment and an important message: togetherness is what counts - no matter how different we may be.
