Waldeck-Frankenberg: swimming lakes with excellent water quality!
In the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, there is reason to celebrate: All large swimming lakes in the region, including the popular Twistesis near Wetterburg, were evaluated in the latest investigation by the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG). This emerges from a report by WLZ Online, which underlines the excellent water quality of the bathing lakes, which have been checked according to the EU bathing water regulation. In addition to these positive results, HLNUG found that 58 of 61 Hessian bathing lakes received the top grade.
A total of 2,291 bathing water in Germany were examined for the 2024 bathing water season, with impressive 98 percent of the examined waters met the high requirements of the EU quality standards. Almost 91 percent of these waters were able to secure the excellent evaluation. In Hesse, the consistency of water quality shows that the strict surveillance measures in recent years prove.
The challenge of the blue algae
Despite the excellent reviews, special vigilance is offered. As can be seen from the report of WLZ online, events such as the mass increase in blue algae can limit the use of the bathing lakes. This phenomenon is not only well observed during the bathing season, but also monitored together with the health offices. In the Edersee, which could be at risk due to its low water level, rapid algae development is possible, which can cause the water production.
A good rule of thumb to assess the dangers of blue -green algae even: If you stand up to your knees in the water and do not see the feet, you should avoid bathing. Warning signs are greenish-blue streaks on the water surface and unpleasant smells. To ensure that bathing is still harmless, water samples are tested before the start of the bathing season and at least monthly for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci.
conscious bathing season
The official bathing season in Hesse runs until August 20, and the citizens are encouraged to visit the beautiful bathing lakes in the region as long as water quality allows it. Even during the season, it is important to stay attentive and pay attention to the information from the responsible authorities.
On the HLNUG homepage, all bathing lakes that are reported in the region can be viewed. Overall, the quality of the German bathing waters remains very good, according to the current figures of the Federal Environment Agency, which carries out 13,207 water samples and regular surveillance. This shows that bathing in Hessian waters will continue to have a pleasure in the future - if we observe the information from the experts.
