Literary Spring 2026: Star authors bring excitement to Waldeck!

The “Literary Spring in the Homeland of the Brothers Grimm” is just around the corner and promises to be a highlight of cultural life in northern Hesse. From March 20th to 29th, 2026, Waldeck-Frankenberg will be the venue for numerous readings, discussions and culinary experiences. The event, which was launched in 2012, has become an integral part of regional culture over the years. With the support of over 30 partners and several hotels, the festival will offer not only literary but also culinary highlights, as HNA reports.

A special treat will be the reading by actor Christian Berkel, who will read from his autobiographical novel “Sputnik” on March 28, 2026. Christoph Hein will also make an appearance and read from his work “The Ship of Fools” at Waldeck Castle on March 21st. Festival director Christiane Kohl announces that, in addition to current topics such as war, peace and democracy, several non-fiction books will also be part of the program.

A colorful program for everyone

The festival expects a diverse audience and has more than two dozen events up its sleeve. The official website informs that the first program items will be published in the first days of December. There will be prominent guests such as Julia Holbe, Katerina Poladjan, Thomas Melle, Max Goldt and Tommi Wieringa, all of whom will present their works and thoughts. Boris Palmer will also talk about current crises, which should make for an exciting discussion.

Special events also include the exclusive reading dinners, which combine literature and fine cuisine. Star chef Erik Arnecke will celebrate a gourmet dinner on the first Sunday and Monday of the festival. In addition, actor Michael Quast will perform a literary revue on Thursday of the festival week.
