Cup in Bad Arolsen: New waterworks for better supply!

In Bad Arolsen, the celebration is great: the topping -out ceremony for the new company building of the waterworks took place today. Under the new roof, the carpenter Philipp Müller spoke a few solemn words and thus set a sign of the upcoming move of the Nordwaldeck (KBN) municipal companies to the new location in Mengeringhäuser Feld on Viehmarktsweg. The current building on the Helser kindergarten will soon be history.

The new system has set itself the goal of making the water supply more efficient and more modern. Around 25,000 inhabitants are connected to the existing water pipes of KBN, which have an impressive length of 1,600 kilometers. Every year, employees promote around 1.2 million cubic meters of water from seven deep wells.

The new company building

The new building will extend over an area of around 6,000 square meters and includes numerous modern facilities. This includes workshops for the maintenance of water clocks and the disinfection of standpipes and an electric workshop. A large material warehouse and sufficient office space are also planned - including two employee offices, a master's office, a meeting room and a social area. Overall, the new permanent establishment will offer space on 860 square meters, supplemented by a storage area of 600 square meters.

KBN managing director Irene Merkel confidently commented on the new working conditions. "We want to offer our employees modern and pleasant jobs," she emphasized, referring to the development that results in this new building.

The new waterworks is also technologically upgraded: a roof with a photovoltaic system is installed that will perform an output of 90 kW peak. This PV system will also operate four wall boxes for electric vehicles and a heat pump, which underlines the environmental friendliness of the facility.

necessary progress

The move to the new premises is planned by the end of the year. This completes a long process to improve the infrastructure. The current location has proven to be inadequate: too small workshops and lack of social spaces for the already eleven employees lead to inefficient work processes. In addition, the sanitary facility does not meet the legal requirements, which accuses additional need for action.

Especially city council leaders Gerd Frese emphasized the importance of ring lines: These are not only decisive to avoid failures in water supply, but also create a reliable basis for the upcoming challenges.

The work around the water infrastructure systems is of great importance. These systems not only ensure the continuous provision of drinking water, but also minimize the environmental impacts from waste water. At the same time, they ensure the protection of public health - a fact that is important for all generations, as the expert: inside of Fraunhofer underline. They actively research the improvement of these systems to ensure that they can also withstand the challenges of climate change.

We can therefore be curious to see how the waterworks will develop in the future. The region can look forward to a modern and effective supply system that meets both today's needs and future challenges.
