While the number of registered training positions fell by 43 to 900, the number of applicants rose to 858, which corresponds to an increase of 52 compared to the previous year. This leads to a ratio of 98 interested people per 100 training positions - last year there were only 88. However, reaching the training centers is often difficult because many institutions are far from each other. In addition, some companies have scaled back their training operations due to the economic situation, which does not make the situation any easier.

Training offers and trends

The registered training occupations include, among others, retail, industrial clerks and dental assistants. In recent years, however, the number of unplaced applicants has also decreased, from 76 to 49. At the same time, the number of available training positions fell from 150 to 122. However, the problem of mismatch between supply and demand remains.

Innovations and initiatives

In order to promote exchange between companies and young talent, VolaPlast GmbH & Co. KG relies on various initiatives. The company provides training in five professions and currently has four trainees, but plans to increase this number to 6-8 in the future. Organizing boys' and girls' days as well as trainee get-to-know-you days also helps to introduce students to the companies at an early stage. VolaPlast also offers training positions to Bulgarian students and at the same time teaches the language through in-house German courses.

The IHK Kassel-Marburg reports a slight increase in training numbers in the Schwalm-Eder district, even though there was a decline of 6.1 percent in the entire IHK district. There were 224 trainees in the technical and commercial area and the number increased to 388 contracts in the commercial area, both of which are positive signals.

Ultimately, it can be said that despite the challenges, the training landscape in the Schwalm-Eder district is being revitalized by some positive impulses. However, for many companies it remains a challenge to find the right trainees for their open positions.
