MT Melsungen stops Lemgo's winning streak: 28:22 home win in crunch time!
What an evening in the Rothenbachhalle! MT Melsungen set an example and defeated the previously unbeaten TBV Lemgo Lippe with a clear 28:22. After a long process with many exciting twists and turns, it was finally crunch time in which the Melsungers turned things around and were able to gain a decisive lead. In this game, Nikolaj Enderleit was the star of the evening: MT's best thrower scored eight goals and often made the Lemgo defense look old. Goalkeeper Laszlo Bartucz also contributed to the convincing performance with eight blocked throws.
But it wasn't quite that simple. The game was very even for a long time and the spectators had to worry until the end. Lemgo, who started the season with a defeat against SC Magdeburg, wanted to continue their highs and had previously won an impressive six out of seven league games. But it was simply not possible against Melsunger, and the defeat represents a bitter setback for the guests, who were finally stopped after nine competitive games without defeat. Lemgo's best thrower, Tim Suton, came away empty-handed, who also scored eight goals, but in the end only had to go home with a defeat.
A crucial phase
David Mandic's goal in the 57th minute was particularly impressive, increasing the score to 26:22 and already leading to a preliminary decision. Melsungen started the game well prepared and held his own against the Lemgo defense. The atmosphere in the Rothenbachhalle was a delight as the Melsung fans loudly supported their team and fought for every ball.
The current table of the Handball Bundesliga clearly shows how important this victory was for the Melsung team. With this success they have taken another step towards the top half of the table. If you are interested in the rankings, you can see the current standings Kicker see.
The Melsungers have won four of the last five league games and are in top form. If things continue like this, we can look forward to the next games. Will MT be able to carry on this momentum and continue to shake up the league in the coming weeks? We're staying tuned!
