Construction delays at the Old Casino in Melsungen: Wait for funding notice!
There is a lot going on in Melsungen, especially at the Old Casino, which is about to undergo extensive revitalization. The charming building, which has been at its location since 1823, has been gutted for months and is faced with waiting people who are eagerly awaiting the next steps of the renovation. How HNA reports, the city administration is planning to reopen in 2028, but some hurdles must be overcome beforehand.
What is driving the delays? The federal government's early elections in particular have thrown the schedule into disarray. Mayor Timo Riedemann explains that the change of government in Berlin is the main problem. For the total costs of around 11 million euros, the federal government will cover 3.4 million euros through a special funding program. This funding comes from a pot belonging to the former Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth, who submitted the project to the federal government. The new Commissioner for Culture and Media, Wolfram Weimer, is now entrusted with progress.
A project with historical value
The steering group, consisting of city councilors and city representatives, has taken responsibility for the revitalization of the old casino nh24. Their goal is to create a vibrant community center. The challenges lie not only in the structural integrity, but also in the fire protection of the listed building. Particular attention will be paid to returning the house to its original state from 1838 in accordance with listed building standards, and the extension from the 1970s will be removed.
In addition to the reusability of parquet and old steel beams, the plans also provide for the installation of modern and ecologically sustainable elements. Air conditioning has now been included in the planning, which is driving up costs. Nevertheless, ecological standards such as rainwater use and the use of recycled building materials should be taken into account, which makes the project all the more valuable. In particular, accessibility for future guests is ensured with four elevators, which benefits the space for a total of 400 guests.
The path to completion
However, a lot still remains to be clarified as the upcoming construction work will have to be put out to tender across Europe. Citizens are invited to find out about the progress and plans at the Melsunger Kulturfabrik on May 16, 2024. The ambitious renovation is intended to revitalize not only the building itself, but also community life in Melsungen. Ultimately, the Old Casino should become a meeting place – for both old and new generations.
To increase the anticipation even further: The planned demolition of the Old Casino could take place this year and construction work for the extension is on track for next year. But first we have to wait for the funding decision, because without this the big vision can only dream for the time being.
