Grief for Majorin Adele: A life for the Salvation Army in Kassel

A serious loss for the Salvation Army and the city of Kassel: Majorin Hanna Zschaler, known to many as an adroel, died on May 18, 2025 at the age of 88. Her wish to take over her parents' hardware store in Reutlingen took a back seat when she discovered the Salvation Army and was impressed by its happy and balanced nature. As HNA reported, Zschaler lived in different cities before moving to Kassel in 1990. Here she got involved in the local community and collected donations in the pubs of the city.

Hanna Zschaler, born on May 28, 1936 in Rathen in Schwabenland, joined the cadet school of the Salvation Army in Herne as a young woman and was ordained in 1959. Over the years, she established herself in various functions, including as a corps officer in cities such as Frankfurt, Tuttlingen and Heidelberg. Her promotion to the major woman took place in 1981, and she remained active until her retirement in 1999, where she most recently worked in Kassel. Even after her official retirement, she helped out the Salvation Army in Cologne and Berlin, such as info.heilsarmee.de emphasized.

a life full of devotion

Zschaler's commitment was tireless: it not only designed services, but also took care of those who were in need. From the food edition for the homeless to the support of sick and from addiction problems affected people - their operational readiness knew no limits. "Good" was the answer that she always gave when you asked her about her well -being. In her past few years she lived in a retirement home, where she continued to be a friendly, measured on her over 60-year connection to the salvation army for the people who surrounded them.

The funeral with urn burial will take place on Monday at 12 p.m. in the chapel of the north cemetery. The Salvation Army in Kassel has recently lost members and had to close its community at the beginning of the year, but the social center remains. Zschaler's steady concern about the increasing poverty in the country is another chapter of her eventful life story, which goes back to the founding of the Salvation Army in London in 1865. The constant work of this institution over the decades, despite difficult beginnings and resistance, shows the deep faith and the desire to help people who are in need.

The Salvation Army looks back on over 130 years of experience in Germany, and Hanna Zschaler's legacy will certainly remain alive in the hearts of the Kassel residents. They made their tireless effort and their friendly character not only known and popular in the city, but also in the entire salvation army. The saying of such a committed personality is a painful matter for everyone who knew them.
