Fairy tale garden in Hofgeismar: Gardening together for young and old!
A very special project opened its doors in Hofgeismar a few months ago: the fairy tale garden. Directly behind the day care at the market, adjacent to the old pharmacy garden of the Hirschapotheke, numerous activities take place under the motto “for everyone”. The project is particularly aimed at hobby gardeners and those interested who do not have their own garden or balcony. The vision is clear: bring people of different ages and backgrounds together to discover their green thumb together. As the HNA reports, volunteers, children from the after-school group at Anger, visitors from day care, city youth care, the Diakonisches Werk and neighbors come together here.
The last meeting took place recently, where the raised beds were not only built but also diligently filled. The hobby gardeners were able to let their creativity run wild. This is how herbal salt was made and candied roses were made. The planned planting includes a colorful mix of flowers, herbs and vegetables, according to the wishes of the participants. The children in particular had numerous ideas: among other things, they wanted tulips, sunflowers, tomatoes, cucumbers, raspberries and strawberries.
Community and sustainability
Community is very important in the fairytale garden. Regular meetings not only create a sense of togetherness, but also enable the exchange of knowledge and skills. The concept of urban gardening, which is incitement is promoted, proves to be an excellent model. The idea of urban community gardens is seen as a place for experimentation and intercultural exchange. Such projects often focus on the local cultivation of heirloom varieties and the creation of insect hotels, which promote a sustainable lifestyle.
Funding for the fairytale garden will officially end in the fall, but the dedicated team plans to continue using and promoting the project. The next date has already been set: On Tuesday, July 8th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., there will be the opportunity to make herbal vinegar and plant tomatoes. Coffee, tea and cookies are available for the participants, so that a cozy get-together is guaranteed.
The city of Hofgeismar supports the project through the local alliance “We for Hofgeismar”.
