Fire in Hofgeismar: Fire brigade saves old town from inferno!
On Saturday evening, November 1st, 2025, an alarming fire report was received in the old town of Hofgeismar. The fire department was alerted around 9:30 p.m. after smoke was already coming from the front part of the building. Several fire engines from Hofgeismar, Hümme, Kelze and the professional fire department from Kassel were immediately mobilized. The rapid deployment of the emergency services prevented anything worse from happening and was able to avert an inferno in the old town, reports HNA.
Fortunately, when the fire brigade arrived, the flames had not yet spread to the neighboring, inhabited buildings. Nevertheless, the fire spread to the rear part of the building during the extinguishing work, which initially further complicated the situation. Since the affected buildings were unoccupied, the emergency services immediately decided to remove furniture from the business premises in order to avoid greater damage.
Investigations and amount of damage
The Kassel police have started investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unclear. Initial property damage is estimated at around 70,000 euros, and fortunately no injuries or deaths were reported. A full alarm was declared for all districts of Hofgeismar and the extinguishing work continued late into the night.
This event follows another fire incident in Hofgeismar that occurred in a landfill on March 27, 2025. A fire was discovered there at 5:50 a.m. by an employee in the silo composting area. The fire department was alerted immediately, but the fire had developed into a full-scale fire before the emergency services arrived. It spread to an adjacent warehouse, but fortunately there were no injuries here either. The estimated material damage was around 350,000 euros, and the cause of the fire also remains unclear, according to the press portal.
The sequence of events raises questions and shows how important it is to have a well-organized fire department that can respond quickly in an emergency. Such operations are of great importance for the firefighters and the entire community to ensure that fires can be put out quickly and that no one is harmed.
