Baunatal remains bicycle -friendly: important cycling projects are coming!

Baunatal, Deutschland - Baunatal is enjoying a remarkable award: the city has been honored for the fourth time in a row as a particularly bicycle -friendly municipality. Baunatal is currently taking first place in the category for cities with 20,000 to 50,000 inhabitants at the ADFC climate test. This gratifying news was announced by the first city councilor Daniel Jung (SPD) and the cycling commissioner Hartmut Wicke, who received the award in Berlin. But despite these successes there is still a lot to do, as the planned bike paths show that are currently on ice.

The bicycle friendliness in the city could not only be recognized, it also improved. The city takes clear measures to further improve the infrastructure for cyclists. Among other things, a new cycle path along Landesstraße 3473 and a redesign of the R1 cycle path are planned in the urban area. In addition, bicycle roads are to be set up, such as on Zwehrener Weg, to grant cyclists more priority. The pothole initiative to improve path quality is also one of the measures.

planned projects and challenges

For the coming year 2025 there are some projects. The city plans to reduce an old road from the former four -lane connection between Altenbauna and Kirchbauna to make room for a bike path. Another important point is the gap closure on the R1 R1 near Guntershausen, which brings the construction of a bridge over the Bach Bauna. The estimated costs for this bridge amount to around 550,000 euros.

Unfortunately, the Baunatal bike fans still have to wait for the projects to start the project, because they depend on the approval of the 2025/2026 double budget. The next coordination of the budget will take place on September 23 at 6 p.m. in the town hall. Here it will be shown whether the necessary funds can be provided.

ADFC bicycle climate test 2024

The ADFC bicycle climate test 2024 takes place in parallel to the development in Baunatal, which starts on September 1st. Cycling throughout Germany has the opportunity to evaluate their satisfaction with the bicycle friendliness of their cities. With the last survey, around 245,000 participants took part and helped create a new ranking of the most bicycle -friendly cities and municipalities. The survey not only serves the evaluation, but also enables feedback to improve the infrastructure. The results will be presented in Berlin in spring 2025 and are available on the website of the ADFC: Bahrradklima-test.adfc.de.

The goal of the test is to collect realistic feedback from cyclists in order to provide political decision -makers and traffic planners valuable information. The survey includes 27 questions about aspects such as security on the bike, the invitation character of the cycle paths and the coexistence in traffic.

The results of the test will help Baunatal and other municipalities to further promote cycling promotion. With the right support and a good hand in planning, Baunatal will remain on the right track to be a bicycle -friendly city.
