Coalition noise in Frankfurt: FDP leaves alliance for drug centers!
In Frankfurt, the Römer coalition stands in front of a pile of broken glass: On July 7, 2025, the FDP declared its withdrawal and left the coalition of the Greens, SPD and Volt. The reason? A heated coordination of the planned crack search aid center in the station district, which was enforced against the will of the liberals. This reports fnp.de
The social secretary Elke Voitl (Greens) justifies the location and plans to have talks with the residents in order to clear their concerns as possible. In her statement, she described the center as unique in Germany and emphasizes its future -oriented function. The idea of looking after only Frankfurt dependent was rejected in the vote in order to offer a wider range of help. Smoke spaces, showers, a clothing store and psychiatric care are planned, among other things.
criticism and resistance
The clashes within the coalition are mainly due to the heat of the debate. While the SPD, Greens, Volt and Left voted for the project, FDP general secretary Alexander Müller described the center as a "quick shot" and a provocation. The CDU, which now sees in the coalition inability to government, also expresses sharp criticism and speaks of a foreseeable end of the collaboration. Nils Kößler, the CDU parliamentary group leader, sees the dispute as proof of instability within the alliance. The left even goes so far and accuses the FDP irresponsibility, especially in social matters.
The FDP remains interested in constructive urban development despite the withdrawal and sees itself as a duty to accept the concerns of the citizens. However, the dispute over the crack search aid center remains unsolved, and the coalition is required to find new ways to maintain the collaboration. It remains to be seen whether this will be done in the form of a minority government or through new alliances. The residents in the Bahnhofsviertel are already concerned how the situation will develop, while the planned center with an investment volume of around 11.7 million euros is to be opened in the third quarter of 2026.
It will be shown whether the remaining coalition partners will find solutions that not only maintain political peace, but also meet the needs of those affected in the station district. In any case, the ball is now in the field of the not quite as stable coalition.
