New traffic training area in Friedberg: safety guarantee for children!

Freshly renovated and expanded: The traffic training area at the Philipp Dieffenbach School in Friedberg has a new look. The Wetteraukreis has invested heavily to improve the safety conditions for schoolchildren's traffic training. A proud 66,000 euros flowed into the renovation and expansion project, welcomed by district administrator Jan Weckler and school principal Dr. Christiane Willeke-Wetstein during her visit on site.

With a worrying study showing more and more children are struggling to ride bikes safely, the new space is more important than ever. Especially at primary school age, traffic rules are learned and how to use a bicycle is practiced. Here, the little cyclists benefit from the intensive training that they can now complete on the extended routes. These have been specifically widened to enable safe driving past each other.

A security concept for the future

A well thought-out concept ensures that traffic routing at the training site is designed in close coordination with the police. This creates a safe learning environment. In addition, the paved areas around the football field were raised by four to five centimeters in several places to ensure proper use and avoid the formation of puddles. Open areas were removed and filled with topsoil, and the overall concept will be rounded off with greenery next spring.

The students in the Wetterau district not only receive support from the new practice area, but also from the mobile youth traffic school (JVS). This joint project includes a collaboration between the Wetteraukreis e.V. traffic police, which provides teaching materials and concepts, and the police department, which provides trained police officers. The Wetteraukreis provides the technical equipment with vehicles, bicycles and signs to make learning easier for the students.

Traffic training areas are trending across the region

But traffic training areas are not only important in Friedberg. Spread across Germany, these places offer novice drivers an excellent opportunity to learn to drive. Whether in a closed parking lot or a test track, starting, shifting and safe driving can be practiced here. If you don't have a driving instructor, you can still learn to drive with a passenger who has a valid driving license. It is important that the vehicle is roadworthy and insured, as the vehicle owner is liable for any accidents on the site. Of course, the road traffic regulations also apply there.

The maximum permitted speed is usually 30 km/h, and the prices for using such practice areas vary depending on the region. The Wetteraukreis has not only ensured the safety and well-being of its young road users, but has also created an essential basis for the training of future drivers.
