New bridge in Bad Vilbel: Cyclists can now cycle safely to the outdoor pool!
A lot is happening in Bad Vilbel when it comes to cycling. An important piece of infrastructure has now been made fit again: The pedestrian and cycle path bridge at the end of Wiesengasse now allows unhindered access to VILCO, the outdoor pool and the sports facilities. Until now, cyclists had to dismount on the outdoor pool walkway because the railing was too low. But that is now a thing of the past, because the railing has been raised so that in future cyclists can comfortably ride over the footbridge without having to get off. The new height of the railing meets the strict standards for footbridges and bridges that can be used by bicycles, as Wetterau.news reports.
Mayor and head of the mobility department Sebastian Wysocki described the measure as part of the local mobility strategy, which aims to improve connections and shorter routes in Bad Vilbel. This initiative is not only an improvement to the current infrastructure, but also an implementation of a recommendation from the city's cycling concept. With an investment of around 20,000 euros, this step is part of the comprehensive measures to promote cycling.
Improved cycling infrastructure for everyone
The city of Bad Vilbel's cycling concept was updated last year to create a safe and attractive cycling network for all cyclists. This is particularly important since a total of 527 reports were received from citizens to improve the cycle path network. These reports outline existing and missing connections as well as danger points and the need for parking facilities. An inspection by a commissioned planning office follows in order to take the concerns of the citizens into account. A public information event on August 28th also provided insights into the current status of developments Radmobil-Bad-Vilbel reported.
As part of a larger national strategy, the National Cycling Plan 3.0 (NRVP) plays a crucial role. This federal government program, approved at the end of 2022, aims to make cycling in Germany significantly more attractive and safer by 2030. In addition to improving infrastructure, the plan also encourages the creation of seamless cycling networks. This corresponds to the goal of “Bicycle Country Germany 2030”, which is designed to establish cycling as a natural and pleasant way of getting around. The federal government, states and municipalities are required to actively promote the local cycle path infrastructure BMV.
The outdoor pool jetty in Bad Vilbel has a long history. There has been a connection at this point since 1727. After several renovations, including a wooden footbridge and today's precast concrete bridge from 1984, the footbridge is now back in new splendor. As part of the preparations for Hessentag, the city has freshly painted the outdoor swimming pool jetty to give the area an attractive look.
Overall, Bad Vilbel is well on the way to making cycling more attractive and safer. With these measures, the city is not only ensuring a better cycle path network, but is also promoting the sustainable mobility concept of its citizens.
