Creative print workshop in Friedberg: Together against racism!
Friedberg, Deutschland - In Friedberg, Alan Twitchell launched a remarkable project: "meeting". This creative meeting place, which is operated by the International Bund (IB), has set itself the goal of promoting integration and exchange between immigrants and the abells. The focus is on weekly pressure sessions that take place on paper and fabric with various techniques such as linen plates, Gelly print and screen printing. Here, the participants can design their print templates themselves and work at their own pace without feeling pressure. As fnp , the print workshop offers a space for discussions about personal experiences and political topics.
The exchange about social issues is an important aspect of the project. In the first two months, the focus was on trying out the techniques, but in the future the participants should deal intensively with topics such as racism and discrimination. Among other things, prints by signs that can be seen on anti-AfD demonstrations are planned. This makes an active contribution to the social discussion, which is also promoted as a language acquisition. The increasing number of incoming often exceeds the available language courses and makes such projects all the more important.
important encounters thanks to creativity
An example of the positive effect of the project is Sahar Ehsanifar, a 29-year-old artist from Iran. She learned from the print workshop through word of mouth and not only took part in a course for creative writing, but also enjoyed the printing work. One of her motives, an owl, has a special meaning for them, since it stands for wisdom and the desire to learn.
These creative approaches are not only important for the participants, but are also in the context of a broader discussion about racism and discrimination, which has been conducted for many years. A conference that takes place on September 16 and 17, 2022 in cooperation with the Institute for General Pedagogy and Professional Pedagogy at the Technical University of Darmstadt, addresses the combination of active and scientific perspectives in racism and discrimination-critical educational work. It becomes clear that racism and discrimination are still everyday experiences for many people who are perceived as "different". This also illustrated Gew helpful materials.
Overall, the "Collection" project in Friedberg shows how creative approaches can help to build bridges and actively tackle social issues. It is a place of learning, exchange and artistic work that can also initiate important discussions about integration and social challenges.
