Petterweil fire department is looking forward to the new equipment house – completion soon!

In Petterweil, a long overdue wish is becoming a reality: the new fire station is nearing completion. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated a year ago, and the floors have already been laid and painters are at work. The new home of the Petterweil Volunteer Fire Department should be ready for occupancy in just a few weeks. The official handover is planned to take place at Easter so that the firefighters can move straight into the new premises. It is an important investment that not only modernizes the fire service, but also benefits the community, such as the FNP reported.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the impressive project took place around two years ago. The total area of the new tool shed covers an impressive 1000 square meters, of which 300 square meters are intended for the vehicle hall. This is equipped according to the latest standards and offers space for five fire engines, including two large fire engines, a command vehicle and a personnel transport vehicle. This provides the Petterweil fire department with contemporary and functional equipment that meets the requirements of modern operations.

Rooms and equipment

In addition to the vehicle hall, the new equipment house also has changing rooms for active members and the youth fire department. The men's locker room offers 44 lockers for active firefighters and 10 for the youth group, while the women's locker room provides 14 lockers for active firefighters and 8 for the youth firefighters. Sanitary facilities are also provided, as the changing rooms are equipped with toilets.

On the upper floor, the firefighters have training rooms and a spacious lounge with a terrace. These open spaces not only promote exchange and community, but also provide space for training. The training rooms can be used for different age groups, both adults and children, and are functionally furnished, with parquet floors and bean bags for the little ones.

Sustainability and architecture

The design of the new fire station is not only modern, but also sustainable. The building will be constructed in accordance with the KFW40 standard and has a green flat roof and solar modules. The innovative heating technology is supported by a heat pump. With a project cost of around 4 million euros, investments are being made in a future-oriented infrastructure that will completely modernize the Petterweil fire department.

An additional plus point is the spatial arrangement: the fire engines exit via a separate path directly onto Sauerbornstrasse, which minimizes traffic and possible traffic jams in the area. In addition, people in Petterweil know how to use common resources cleverly. Nearby kindergartens are integrated into the planning area, and suggestions for the purchase of fire department play equipment for outdoor use met with a positive response from those responsible.

The Petterweil fire department itself is actively involved in the construction of the new fire station, which not only reduces costs but also strengthens the sense of community. The fire department currently has 54 active members as well as 16 children and 16 young people who are already looking forward to the new, spacious and well-equipped premises. This not only creates a new building, but also promotes a vibrant community that is always ready to ensure the safety of its citizens.
