Königstein fortress conquers China: Exhibition with cannon balls opened!
In an exciting initiative, the Königstein fortress in Saxony wants to address Chinese tourists in a targeted manner. The upcoming opening of the exhibition "Königstein: The Safest Fortress in Germany", which will be presented in the Nanjing City Mason Museum on Saturday, sets a special accent. According to Stern not only shows historical cannon balls, but also weapons, equipment and porcelain from the white city that until November 9 2025 will be seen.
André Thieme, managing director of the fortress, describes the show as one of the greatest challenges in the history of the museum. The aim is to put the Königstein fortress and the entire Saxons for Chinese interested in culture. The initiator of this exhibition is the historian Guoqing Yang, who recognized similarities between the military wall of the fortress and the impressive city wall of Nanjing.
A look at the city wall of Nanjing
The city wall of Nanjing, built in the 14th century, is one of the longest -preserved city walls in the world. It originally comprised 33 kilometers, of which 25 kilometers are still in good condition today. This monumental wall is not only discussed in the exhibition, but extends over five sections that give deeper insights into its construction, historical role and cultural value. The exhibition also has the goal of bringing the architecture of ancient China closer and clarifying the connection between humans, nature and culture, such as Fortung-koenigstein.de reported.
An interactive element will not be missing from the exhibition: A selfie station with historically modeled costumes enables visitors to connect with the story in a funny way.
The Königstein Fortress as a tourist goal
The Königstein Fortress, which is enthroned on an impressive 250 meter high rock plateau, attracts several hundred thousand visitors every year. The entire complex extends over 9.5 hectares and comprises over 50 buildings that tell almost 800 years of history. The fortress was never conquered and served both as a garrison and as a prison, which includes prominent names such as Mikhail Bakunin and August Bebel.
The path to this historical site leads over an attractive hiking trail that leads past significant points, such as the parish church of St. Marien and the birthplace of Julius Otto. The hike ends at the fortress car park and offers access there comfortably via an elevator or a short walk. A small coffee garden with a snack bar in the parking lot invites you to linger and rounds off the visit perfectly, such as planetoutdoor.de explained.
These efforts to boost international tourism, especially from China, are further proof of the potential of cultural exchange. The connection between the Königstein fortress and the city of Nanjing could beat a bridge between the cultures and underline the tourism -friendly character of the region.
