Christmas magic in Bad Homburg: 18 meters of fir trees shine!
In Bad Homburg v. d. Residents and visitors can finally look forward to a festively decorated highlight again: the Christmas tree at the Europa roundabout shines in new splendor! Last year, the traditional splendor of the tree had to be foregone due to the budget situation, but this year the Christmas atmosphere will be refreshed again thanks to the impressive tree, which is decorated with 420 meters of fairy lights and 150 decorative elements. Mayor Alexander Hetjes was enthusiastic about the return of the festive decorations.
The tree itself is an impressive 18 meters high and comes from Vogelsberg, not far from Rudingshain. The gem, which is a good 40 years old and weighs 4 tons, was delivered on October 30, 2025. The depot's employees were responsible for the installation in collaboration with Fritzges Forestry, while the final tasteful decoration was supported by the Bad Homburg casino.
Festive atmosphere in Advent
Thanks to the commitment of casino directors Lutz Schenkel and spa director Holger Reuter, the Europakreisel is once again becoming a center of attraction in the city. Their collaboration represents the important ongoing willingness to provide support in order to promote the Christmas atmosphere in Bad Homburg. “We are looking forward to letting the light fly onto the roundabout again and ringing in the Advent season,” emphasizes Reuter.
But that's not all: from November 4th, 2025, additional Christmas trees were set up in various parts of the city - which further increases the anticipation of the Advent season. The festive lighting also includes innovative concepts, such as the switch to energy-efficient LED lights, which were introduced in the city in 2016. The existing tree at the Gothic House will also be enveloped in festive splendor, while the romantic Christmas market at the castle will be brightly lit.
Tradition and history of the Christmas tree
Historically, the Christmas tree has a long tradition that dates back to the 15th century. As the NDR story reports, the tree was established as a symbol of Christmas by Martin Luther and other reformers. Originally intertwined with pagan customs, the traditional Christmas tree, which brings glamor to the living room, began long before the first records were recorded in Freiburg in 1419.
Today, the Christmas tree is considered a central element of festive traditions in many countries - from the first "Christmas Tree" in the White House in 1891 to the popular tradition of the large Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square after the Second World War. In Bad Homburg, the centuries-old tradition is now being continued alive, and the lighting is continually being modernized to give the city a welcoming, atmospheric atmosphere.
For all Bad Homburgers and guests of the city it is now time to go to the Europakreisel and enjoy the festive atmosphere! It is the time of year when light and joy come to hearts. Happy Advent season!
