Eva Lys succumbs to Badosa: setback at the Berlin Tennis Open!

The Berlin Tennis Open took place this week, where there was a bitter setback for the German player Eva Lys (23). In the first round she competed against Spanish player Paula Badosa (27), who is currently ranked tenth in the world. Unfortunately, Lys had to admit defeat in a preliminary match with 1:6, 3:6. The Hamburger had an unfortunate debut in Berlin and had to hang her head in the first set after just 25 minutes. In the first service game she gave it to zero, which caused difficulties right from the start, reports Picture.

The defeat not only has a bad aftertaste for Lys: With this defeat she also lost the position as Germany's number 1 to Tatjana Maria, who was able to win in London. Despite these difficulties, the Hamburg native remains optimistic because she will be competing in the tournaments in Bad Homburg next week. She will also compete in doubles with her Ukrainian partner Marta Kostyuk (22), which will certainly be a welcome change for her to deliver strong performances on the court, like that Sky Sports underlined.

A strong competition in Berlin

The Berlin Tennis Open attracted numerous top players, including nine of the top ten players in the world. Paula Badosa was in good spirits after her win, while her joy, Stefanos Tsitsipas, also scored a win in Halle/Westphalia. The world number one, Aryna Sabalenka (27), had a bye in the first round and will only take part in the action next day. Another surprise of the day was the defeat of Sonya Kenin, who won the Australian Open in 2020, against Rebeka Masarova (25) 3:6, 2:6. The only 18-year-old Mirra Andreeva, currently ranked seventh in the world, also had to give up and lost to Magdalena Frech 6:2, 5:7, 0:6.

The greatest hopes are currently being raised by Iga Swiatek, who was recently in the spotlight at the Grand Slam tournaments. Her impressive career has already included numerous titles, including three consecutive Roland Garros victories, and she has established herself as one of the best players in international tennis. Their performances are eagerly awaited by many fans. She is also playing in Berlin, which increases the competition even more, as you can see WTA tennis can read.

Although the road has been rocky for Eva Lys in this tournament, new opportunities are just around the corner. Her involvement in doubles and the continuation of her career in Bad Homburg could help her to get back on her feet quickly and perhaps make the jump to Wimbledon, where she will now be in the main draw for the first time.
