Fire brigade is measured by record heat: Hohenstein-Breithardt wins again!
What a radiant day in Idstein! On June 14, 2025, the district decision of the Hessian fire service exercise (Hflü) took place today and the temperatures were high summer, which did not prevent the participants from doing their best. Three fire brigade units from the Rheingau-Taunus district competed against each other: Hohenstein-Breithardt, Hünstetten-Wallrabenstein and the core city of Idstein. The event impressively showed what services the volunteer fire departments in the region can provide. [News today] (https://www.nachrichten-heute.net/138337-feuerwehr-fw-fw-rheingau-taunus-Taunus-Taunus-Sleistungs-s-high summer temperature-hohenstein) reports of a special challenge, because a hazardous substance exercise was also integrated.
The firefighters not only had to put themselves on the competition, but also to demonstrate their skills in the detection and securing of dangerous substances and in the rescue of people. Despite the oppressive heat, the participants were motivated and powerful, and the meals, organized by the Idstein volunteer fire brigade, kept everyone well strengthened in the middle.
results of the competition
The results were finally determined. Hohenstein-Breithardt took first place and thus repeated his success from the previous year. The placements in detail:
- 1. Place: Hohenstein-Breithardt
- 2. Space: Hünstettetten-Wallrabenstein
- 3. Space: Idstein (core city)
The award ceremony was led by district fire chief Holger Hagen, who congratulated participants and guests of honor. Among the invited guests included the mayors of the municipalities involved, district council chairman André Stolz, Klaus-Peter Willsch as representative of the district administrator and Michael Schauß, chairman of the district fire brigade association Untertaunus.
The importance of fire service exercises
The Hessian fire service exercise not only serves the competition, but also to consolidate and expand the knowledge of the fire brigade members across the country. KFV Hochtaunus describes that the exercise consists of a practical and a theoretical part. While the practical part focuses on operating extinguishing vehicles and the use in human rescue, the participants in the theoretical part have to answer 15 specialist questions within ten minutes.
These exercises are crucial to acquire the personal fire service badge in the stages bronze, silver and gold. The classification takes place according to the score that was achieved in the exercise. The implementation regulations and resources updated since January 2025 are available to the firefighters online for preparation.
The results of the district exercise are the first step on the way to national competitions. According to the information from [RP Darmstadt] (https://rp-darmstadt.hessen.de/icherheit-und-kommunales/fahrenwehr/brandschutz/feuerwehrmachung uses), the best teams qualify for the district level, and from there it continues to the state competitions.
Overall, the HFLÜ is an important part of the training and shows how well the fire brigades in Hesse are set up. Today's competition in Idstein was an excellent example and once again demonstrated the dedication and team spirit of the firefighters in the region.
