Aarbergen starts the wind power revolution: citizens are allowed to invest!
Something exciting is happening in the municipality of Aarbergen in the Rheingau-Taunus district: the Frankfurt energy supplier Mainova and the community have signed a cooperation agreement for the development of a wind farm. This pioneering project will include up to seven wind turbines, each capable of producing an impressive 17 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. With a total annual production of around 119 million kilowatt hours, the output is enough to supply around 47,000 two-person households with energy.
The contract was signed by Mayor Matthias Rudolf, First Alderman Regina Schmidt and Martin Giehl von Mainova. Not only is this an important step towards the energy transition, but rental income also flows into the municipal treasury, which increases the municipality's financial flexibility. Aarbergen also secures the right to take over shares in the wind farm. Mayor Rudolf emphasizes that this project brings not only ecological but also economic benefits for the community.
Together in the energy transition
But that's not all: FR.de reports that Mainova is also planning a wind farm on the border with Bad Homburg. The company's long-term goal is to quadruple the generation capacity from wind and photovoltaic systems - currently around 280 megawatts - in the next five years. A real show of strength in the spirit of renewable energies!
An important aspect of the Aarbergen wind power project is the planned citizen participation. This is what Mainova is striving for in order to enable local residents to have a say and to promote acceptance of renewable energies. The possibilities for citizen participation were recently summarized in updated guidelines published by eueco were published. In addition to the legal framework, these guidelines also offer practical tips on organizing and structuring forms of participation.
- Geplante Windenergieanlagen: bis zu 7 Anlagen
- Stromproduktion jährlich: ca. 119 Millionen Kilowattstunden
- Versorgung: rund 47.000 Zwei-Personen-Haushalte
- Baubeginn: 2028, Inbetriebnahme: 2029
The next steps include the preparation of expert reports and the submission of permits in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act. With a collaborative approach, Mainova wants to build long-term collaboration with the community. Citizens can look forward to what awaits them in the coming years!
