Heroic deeds in the Main-Taunus district: Civil courage is celebrated!

Hofheim, Deutschland - In the Main-Taunus district, the civil courage is more alive than ever! Six remarkable citizens were honored today for their courageous efforts, which contributed to preventing crimes and protecting other people. District Administrator Michael Cyriax and police director Carina Lerch took over the award as part of a solemn event of the association "Citizens and Police".

The honored include residents from various cities in the district, including Hofheim, Eschborn, Bad Soden, Hattersheim and Hochheim. These brave people showed how important it is to intervene in delicate situations and prove that civil courage, as the term already reveals, comes from the Latin "Civis" (citizen) and the French "courage" (courage). This becomes particularly important if others look away or do not want to help out of fear, as was found in some studies. According to bpb.de it is often only one person who takes the first step and thus encourages others.

brave deeds in focus

among the excellent Mohammed Nassiri from Eschborn stands out. He watched a man tried to steal expensive sneakers. Although he was injured, he did not let himself be discouraged and continued the persecution, which ultimately led to the culprit's arrest. Sylvia Wolenik, an attentive savings bank employee from Bad Soden, prevented an attempt to fraud on an 89-year-old man by quickly informing the police while he wanted to withdraw money.

Another bank employee in Bad Soden also showed facts by recognizing a fraud attempt and immediately called the police. Turhan Türkeri came to the aid of a 72-year-old woman who was beaten by a 75-year-old man. Thanks to its presumably and the fast alarm from the police, the situation could be quickly brought under control. In Hochheim, Eduard Krebs helped arrest two bicycle thieves after noticing a suspicious vehicle in an underground car park. And in Hattersheim a woman alarmed the police when she noticed a thief who stole from cars.

civil courage in society

The cases illustrate how civil courage is not only in demand in the big, dramatic moments, but also in normal everyday life. Often it only takes a small plot to do great. Nevertheless, it is known that the courage to intervene is often inhibited by uncertainties and fears. Studies, such as those of the research group "Moral Courage", show that many people would be willing to act if they have clear information and the norm violation is clear. A third of the respondents were even willing to bear their own costs to obtain information and clarify the uncertainties, such as mpg.de.

such recognitions and the stories of these brave people are a call to everyone, not to neglect civil courage in everyday life. Because often it is only small steps that can promote a flowering, respectful and just society. Let us enter and support each other for more civil courage!
