Eschborn, Deutschland - in the water is Sarah Högel in her element. The 18-year-old DLRG swimmer from Oberursel has already made a name for herself in the world of rescue sports. In the coming year she will take off her high school diploma at the Feldberg School in Oberursel and at the same time looks at a promising sporty career.

Sarah represented Hesse at the 20th Junior Rescue Cup of the DLRG in Bremen, a significant competition for young people in life-resistant. Here the best talents in disciplines are measured based on real use scenarios, such as swimming temporary and dealing with rescue equipment. Around 60,000 DLRG members in Germany are actively active in rescue sports, which underlines the high importance of such competitions. As fnp, Sarah particularly enjoys starting the water with a surfboard.

a strong foundation in the DLRG

Sarah Högel has been involved in the DLRG since her birth, her family is strongly integrated into the organization. At the age of six she started to learn to swim and now train three times a week in the Eschborn meadow pool. They brought their sporting performance into the state squad through the district and Hessen championships. The junior rescue cup took place for four days, with two days in the indoor pool and two days in the open water, and while it was achieved by mixed results, it was able to sometimes improve her personal best.

"I wasn't just successful, but it was fun and I learned a lot," says Sarah. Even if there are still no missions in the real emergency services on her list, she plans to become a lifeguard. It appreciates the health benefits of swimming and thinks about a professional future in sports or sports management. In addition to the water, she is also interested in guard dance and trains at TSC Schwarzgold Frankfurt.

The big competitions in view

The junior rescue cup is not only an important platform for young talents such as Sarah, but also a springboard for further career-technical steps. The DLRG takes part in numerous national and international competitions. The motto "Every step counts" applies especially to the World Championships that take place every two years and at the European Championships of the International Lifesaving Federation Europe (ILSE). There are also the World Games in which eight national teams take part, and the DLRG is also represented at the World Military Championships, where our athletes, who are also sports soldiers, train at the sports school of the Bundeswehr in Warendorf.

The events not only offer a platform for the competition, but also the opportunity to gain international experiences, to close new friendships and to develop further in the team. "I look forward to the upcoming challenges and the opportunity to represent our team," emphasizes Sarah.
