Summer solstice in Michelstadt: Experience the magic of the night!

The summer solstice is just around the corner and in Michelstadt this special time is celebrated with a very special event. On Saturday, June 28th, the city of Michelstadt and the Geopark rangers invite you to an informative and atmospheric tour, during which visitors can not only learn about the original Midsummer festivals, but also enjoy the beauty of the Michelstadt Forest. The event starts at 6:30 p.m., the meeting point is at the parking lot at the cemetery at Friedhofstrasse 57. For just five euros, those interested can take part in this ranger tour, which is part of the four ranger tours offered this year. The deadline for registration is Friday, June 27th at 12 p.m., although registration by telephone at 06251-707991 is required, as ODW Journal reports.

But what exactly can participants expect? This tour explores the significance of the summer solstice, which is closely linked to nature and the changing of the seasons. The rangers provide insights into the pre-Christian traditions and customs associated with this time. The evening walk through the forest promises not only educational information, but also breathtaking views of Michelstadt's picturesque landscape.

Insights into nature and traditions

In addition to the summer solstice, there will be another ranger hike in the Michelstädter Forest on Saturday, June 22, 2024, which will highlight nature and the growth of herbs. This event is led by ranger Angelika Bonin-Schmidt and also starts at 6:30 p.m. at the same meeting point. The tour is an excellent opportunity to experience the influence of the annual cycle on nature and to enjoy the evening sun, as described in the Geo-Naturpark calendar.

Variety of offers in the Odenwald

For example, on Whit Monday, June 9, 2025, the mill festival for German Mill Day will take place at the Herrnmühle in Reichelsheim. Here visitors can experience the tradition of milling from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A few weeks later, on August 17, 2025, the Keller sheep farm in Michelstadt-Rehbach invites you to a farm festival with sheep, donkeys and other attractions.
