Hochhaus in Babenhausen evacuated: Danger from falling facade!
Babenhausen, Deutschland - last night, in Babenhausen in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, the residents of a eleven-story high-rise highhouse had to leave their apartments in a hurry. The reason: Dangerous damage to the facade was found after a facade part, which is about 20 to 25 square meters, crashed and another imminent on Tuesday. Almost 190 people were affected by the evacuation that Mayor Dominik Stadler declared necessary to ensure the security of the residents. "We had great concerns about the stability of the facade and the escape routes," he reported. More than 70 apartments are located in the high -rise building, so that the evacuation was a logistical challenge.
The residents only had ten minutes to pack the bare essentials such as clothing, wallet and medication and leave the building. The police supported the security instructions to implement the security instructions quickly. Many of the affected residents were temporarily accommodated by friends or relatives, while others were housed in the town hall. Beds and meals were provided there, and there were even shower containers and living cabins to make the circumstances a little more bearable. At Thursday morning, around 55 people were still in the town hall, while they were waiting for news to return to their apartments.
evacuation and planned work
The construction work to remove the facade elements delays and are now expected to take two to three weeks. An additional crane and a lifting stage were organized to speed up the work so that the repair can progress faster. A examiner will then certify the static harmlessness of the building before a new facade is attached, while the residents can already return. A specialist will check the building again at the beginning of next week to determine the return of the residents.
The evacuation was not carried out without reason: the construction supervision pointed out that part of the staircase had already broken off and that other parts of the facade also threatened to rush. However, it was clarified that there was no general collapse for the building. The defects in the facade's intentions were already known to the residents, but a resident, Bistra Damyanova, had informed the property management several times about the problems.
The safety of the high buildings is subject to strict regulations and guidelines. These include not only planning and approval, but also regular security checks, as explained on the website of the Herfurtner website.
"We take the security of our citizens very seriously. Such incidents must be processed in order to be able to react better to such situations in the future," said Mayor Stadler. It remains to be seen how things will go on and when the past residents can go back to their apartments. The city administration and the district jointly examine whether temporary accommodations, possibly in refugee accommodation.
The situation once again shows how important it is to continuously monitor the safety of high -rise buildings and take measures in good time. The incident could also serve as a wake -up call for a more intensive review of the substance of such buildings in the region.
