Aumovio plans comeback: brake work in the USA could open again!

Who would have thought that Donald Trump's tariffs would have far -reaching consequences for the German automotive industry? Especially today, on June 28, 2025, we see the effects clearly. Aumovio, the future spin-off of Continental, plans to fundamentally rethink their production strategies in order to react to the challenges of the US tariffs. Aumovio boss Philipp von Hirschheydt announced at the capital market day in Frankfurt that the reopening of a recently closed brake work in Culpeper, Virginia, is also considered, even if this work is not in Hesse. This shows that the global developments directly influence the local situation.

The situation in the Aumovio camp is anything but rosy. The group plans to close three works in Germany, specifically in Karben (Wetteraukreis), Babenhausen (Darmstadt-Dieburg district) and Gifhorn (Lower Saxony). At the same time, existing works should continue to be raised to maximize production in the remaining locations. The Culpeper location, which was closed in January 2023, could soon be put back into operation. These decisions are part of a comprehensive strategy to position Aumovio as an independent car supplier based in Frankfurt in the market.

market strategies in change

The requirements for adaptation are clear: Global companies such as Continental and Aumovio have to deal with the changes due to the US tariffs. Nikolai Setzer, the CEO of Continental, has already announced that it will expand production in the existing US tire works, but no new locations are planned. According to a report by Autohaus.de, the possible increase in the existing works is also used to remain competitive.

However, this also means that the risk of job cuts in Germany cannot be dismissed. As Deloitte states, many jobs, especially in vehicle production, could be affected if the relocation of production to the USA should really become a reality. An assessment of the risks and opportunities is essential for the automobile manufacturers. At the moment there are also unclear forecasts regarding the extent of these changes.

sales forecasts and outlook

So what about the numbers? Aumovio itself has ambitious goals. For the next two to three years, the company is aiming for sales of 20 to 22 billion euros. The long -term goal is even over 24 billion euros. In comparison, the Continental automotive business received sales of 19.6 billion euros last year. The pressure is growing and the company management faces short -term challenges, but is confident that Aumovio is well positioned to achieve a strong market position.

The developments around Aumovio and Continental impressively show that globalized economy and regional markets are closely interwoven. Only those who use the changes correctly and adapts can exist in the competition. The coming months will show how well management can deal with the new circumstances and whether the ambitious goals can be achieved.
