Armed attack on a betting shop in Lorsch: Police are looking for witnesses!
Late in the evening of June 26, 2025, there was an attack in Lorsch that stirred the minds of local residents. At around 10:49 p.m., a masked man entered a betting shop on Hirschstrasse and immediately pulled out a pistol. The two employees were threatened and asked to hand over cash. After receiving a small amount of cash, the perpetrator fled on foot in an unknown direction. Witnesses reported that shortly after the attack he was talking to two occupants of a dark VW Golf. They are now urgently asked to contact the police station in Heppenheim on 06252-705-555. The description of the fleeing perpetrator suggests a man around 20 to 25 years old, around 180 cm tall, of slim build and dressed in black sweatpants and a windbreaker with the inscription "Ellesse", as [ffh.de](https://www.ffh.de/nachrichten/hessen/suedhessen/436707-wettbuero-in-lorsch-mit- Pistole-ueberfallen.html) reports.
Such an incident cannot only be observed in Lorsch. A similar attack on a betting shop also occurred in Unterschleißheim, near Munich, on February 16, 2025. At that time, a masked man armed with a handgun snatched cash from an employee. Here too, the perpetrator rang the alarm bells by running away immediately after receiving some banknotes. After a search that lasted more than an hour, no further evidence of the perpetrator could be found. Commissariat 21 is conducting the investigation into predatory extortion, as merkur.de reported.
A look at crime
In order to better understand such incidents, it is worth taking a look at general crime in Germany. In 2022, a total of around 5.63 million crimes were recorded, including a significant number of robbery crimes. The increase in thefts, which has been recorded for the first time since 2015, is particularly noteworthy. In the same year there were more than 38,000 robbery crimes recorded by the police, although the clearance rate for robberies is relatively high at just under 60%. This provides an interesting context for the recent attacks on betting shops, which apparently continue to be attractive to the perpetrators despite these odds, as statista.com shows.
These incidents in Lorsch and Unterschleißheim underline the ongoing problem with security in betting shops and similar establishments. The authorities are asking the public to be more vigilant and to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. The insecurities that such attacks bring with them not only affect the employees and operators affected, but also the entire neighborhood, which feels threatened with their safety.
