Heat damage to A5: Because of blow-ups, traffic jams threaten before the holidays!
The heat wave, which is currently looking for Germany, not only brings sunshine, but also dangerous consequences for the infrastructure. As Tagesschau were already reported on the A5 between Fernwald (Gießen) and the Gambacher Kreuz (Münzenberg) Heat damage discovered. The southern section is blocked because the road cover is dangerously arched. Only the right lane can be used temporarily, so that traffic can only flow here in two lanes. Specialist companies are to examine the damage through so-called blow-ups.
blow-ups are heat-related arches and cracks in the lane ceiling, which suddenly occur and are particularly risky. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts a heat wave with temperatures between 34 and 40 degrees, which still exacerbates this danger situation. According to SPIEGEL , older concrete routes are particularly susceptible to such damage, since they can break up or arch at high temperatures.
anticipation for the summer vacation meets traffic problems
With the upcoming start of the summer vacation in many federal states, drivers face an additional challenge: the traffic situation is further complicated by existing construction sites on the A4, A5 and A7 motorways. ADAC is already warning of traffic jams on the most important traffic axes, as many travelers will be on the move.
The traffic situation on the A5 was made more difficult by another tragedy. On Friday morning, a fatal accident occurred between Zeppelinheim (Neu-Isenburg) and the Frankfurter Kreuz. A car collided with a van, which then turned and came to lie on the left lane. Tragically, the 21-year-old driver was hit by another vehicle after getting out and died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the van suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the second driver was only slightly injured. The A5 to the north had to be completely blocked for rescue and securing evidence.
Caution is better than forbearance
The situation on the streets is critical of the high temperatures and the impending blow-up risk. Anja Käfer-Rohrbach, deputy general manager of the GDV, recommends driving for drivers. Especially on hot days you should expect increased dangers, because blow-ups can occur without warning. Anyone who is involved in such an accident should be aware that usually only fully comprehensive insurance for the damage arises. The liability of the road or highway master shop is rarely given in such cases.
The current incompatible conditions and the upcoming heat wave not only require special vigilance from the drivers, but also from the responsible authorities of quick reactions to ensure security on the streets.
