Spahn in the Bundestag: Important questions about the mask affair are pending!
Lauterbach, Deutschland - Today, on June 25, 2025, the former Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) is under intensive pressure in the Bundestag. In the budget committee, he has to ask himself questions about a explosive special report on mask procurement during corona apandemia. Minister of Health Nina Warken (CDU) will also comment on the report, which Margaretha Sudhof was drawn up on behalf of the current Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and raises far -reaching allegations against Spahn. The report, which includes around 170 pages, was already completed at the beginning of 2025, but did not find the public that he deserved during the Bundestag election campaign. A blackened version was only passed on to the public on June 24, 2025.
The criticism of Spahn comes mainly from the opposition, where Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) in particular demanded that the Federal Government apologize for Corona policy. In addition, the Bundestag will now debate Corona politics, which is done at the request of the Greens and the left. The establishment of an Enquete Commission for the processing of the pandemic is also to take place today. In this context, Lauterbach had already appointed a special representative to investigate the mask orders in July 2024.
error in procurement
Jens Spahn grants mistakes in mask procurement, but sees the circumstances that led to his approach. During the initial phase of pandemic, especially in March 2020, there was a global lack of respiratory protection masks, and Spahn decided due to the pressure to guarantee provider that they would receive an unlimited decrease in masks at a price of 4.50 euros per FFP2 mask. This led to overproduction, from which many expensive complaints result.
Currently over 100 similar lawsuits are pending against the federal government, the total damage amounts to up to 2.3 billion euros. In the most recent judgment of the Cologne Higher Regional Court, the Federal Ministry of Health will be sentenced to payment of EUR 86 million plus 33 million euros in default interest. In addition, the "fixed business" clause in the contracts was declared ineffective what the ministry prompted to initiate revision before the Federal Court of Justice.
The financial challenge
Another aspect that may not be ignored in this debate is the financial interdependencies during mask procurement. Over 700 million euros were paid to the Emix company, which is under the direction of Luca Steffen and Jascha Rudolphi. The latter currently see themselves in court in Switzerland because of usury. Between 2020 and 2023 there was an enormous number of orders - over four billion masks were ordered, but only 1.7 billion was actually distributed. Much of these orders are suspected of being characterized by overpriced prices and non -transparent processes.
Andrea Tandler, daughter of the former CSU politician Gerold Tandler, was a central person in these machinations, since she started the business with the ministry via CSU contacts and received commissions of over 48 million euros. In 2023 she was sentenced to almost four and a half years in prison for tax evasion.
The political debates about Corona policy and mask procurement are far from over. Both the government parties SPD, the Greens and the FDP disagree on the form of processing, and the questions that are raised today in the Bundestag could have far -reaching consequences for the future of politics and the Ministry of Health. The clock ticks and the citizens are waiting for answers.
