Discover Bebra: Water tower tour on December 6th – Register now!

On Saturday, December 6th, 2025, the Bebra water tower invites you to a special event. From 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., visitors can experience the impressive technology and history of the water reservoir up close. The water tower, which was put into operation in 1910, is considered a technical monument and landmark of the city of Bebra. Its height of 25.85 meters and diameter of 10.60 meters are particularly fascinating. The large ball of the water tower has a generous capacity of 500 m³, while an additional lawn container used to hold 1200 m³ of water. Today, however, this is only partially there after the water tower was shut down in 1984 and was opened to the public in 1988 after extensive renovation.

A highlight of the day will be the free tour of the water tower. This starts at 3:30 p.m. and lasts about an hour. The number of participants is limited to 20 people, which is why prior registration is recommended. Interested parties can be added to the list by sending an email to info@ef-bebra.de report or the cell phone number. Use 0178 / 7265251. Fortunately, there is also the opportunity to get lots of free remaining places on site on the day of the event.

Experience for the whole family

Water Tower Day will be even more exciting for all railway fans, as the Eisenbahnfreunde Bebra e.V. will be sending the “Wasserturm-Express”, the “Bebraer Bimmelbahn” and the “Biber-Blitz” into the race with their narrow-gauge railways. The trains run every 10 to 15 minutes and cover a distance of almost two kilometers to Weiterode West. This entertaining train ride is ideal for families and anyone who wants to taste a little nostalgia.

But that's not all! Inside the water tower itself, visitors can admire the fascinating exhibits on security and telecommunications technology in the adjacent railway museum. The water tower is not only an eye-catcher, but also an exciting place that has a lot to offer without sacrificing its historical significance. With open stairs that lead over two floors, visitors can climb the water tower up to the steel ball.

A piece of history within reach

Securing the water supply, which once happened through a pumping station from the Fulda, was essential for the Bebra train station. It once had its own network of water, electricity and heat pipes. When you visit the water tower, the connection between railway history and water supply comes to life. It becomes noticeable how important this place was for the city of Bebra over many years and how it is still anchored in the hearts of its citizens today.
