The Bad Hersfeld Festival promises an impressive experience again this year: On June 20, 2025 at 9 p.m., the premiere of ** “Midsummer Night dreams” ** will be celebrated in the historical abbey ruin according to the famous work of William Shakespeare. Joern Hinkel, who even brought a concise staging of the classic on stage in 2015, takes over again and has come up with a lot. With a new musical interpretation by Jörg Gollasch, the orchestra of the Bad Hersfeld Festival under the musical direction of Christoph Wohlleben will take the audience into the dream world of the play.

The exciting action is about Thesus, the Duke of Athens, who plans his wedding with the Amazon Queen Hippolyta. During the wedding preparations, a large orchestra not only leads to festive sounds, but also to a manual play that is listed as a further highlight of the evening. In the midst of turmoil of love and confusion, the characters of the piece - including the four young hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius - can be found in a chaotic dream world, which is also mixed up by the Schelmischer Kobold Puck. Hinkel brings bizarre ideas and unexpected twists in the staging, which is more digestive as a modern hymn on love and theater.

The "Midsummer Night's Dream" is not only a classic of theater literature, but also a tradition at the Bad Hersfeld Festival, where the play was first performed in 1961.
